MADRID 4 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
A British citizen has been confirmed as one of the 14 victims of the multiple car accident that took place in the early hours of Wednesday after the New Year celebration in a tourist area full of bars and restaurants in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
London’s Metropolitan Police have reported that they are providing support to the family of Edward Pettifer, 31, of Chelsea, who died after being run over on Bourbon Street during the attack.
“The entire family is devastated by the tragic news of Ed’s death. He was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend. He will be deeply missed. Our thoughts are with the other families affected by this terrible attack,” said the Pettifer’s family in a statement.
“We will all miss him very much. Our thoughts are with the other families who have lost their relatives due to this terrible attack,” they lamented.
The suspected perpetrator of the multiple hit-and-run, who has been identified as Shamsud din Jabbar, intentionally drove a truck into a crowd that was celebrating the New Year on a street in New Orleans. In addition to the deceased, another 35 people have been injured.
Jabbar, who lived in the state of Texas and was an Army veteran, was killed after an exchange of fire with the Police in a shootout in which several people were injured. Agents later recovered a flag of the Islamic State terrorist group that was in the back of the vehicle.
In addition, they found several videos spread through social networks in which Jabbar declared his support for the Islamic State.
