MADRID 26 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Electoral Panel of Complaints and Appeals of Kosovo announced this Wednesday the annulment of the veto of the Serbian List party, the main party of the Serbian ethnic minority in the region, allowing it to present candidates in the next parliamentary elections.
“Following the attempt by (Prime Minister) Albin Kurti and his henchmen to illegally prevent the participation of the Serbian List in the elections on February 9, 2025 through the Central Election Commission (CEC), we inform the public that the appeal against this illegal decision has been accepted,” the group announced in a statement published on its profile on the social network Facebook.
For Serbian List, this decision “supports” their claim that they have complied with “all legal procedures” and that the “attempt to eliminate them” was made “with the aim of also favoring Serbs eligible for Kurti, and that everything was carried out directly under his orders and for political reasons.
“The CEC is obliged to act in accordance with the verdict of the Electoral Panel of Appeals and Petitions and certify Serbian List to participate in the elections and it now remains to be seen whether the CEC will continue to violate the law and its own regulations and act under political pressure directly from the Pristina authorities,” he concluded.
This week, the CEC refused to certify the political party’s list due to its nationalist stance, but the panel ruled that the decision was contrary to legal provisions. Serbian List has nine of the ten legislators that the Serbian minority currently has in Parliament, which has 120 seats.
