MADRID 18 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

A ship transiting the waters of the Red Sea was targeted this Sunday in an attack allegedly carried out by the Yemeni Houthi rebels, as confirmed by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

The organization, linked to the British Royal Navy, has indicated in its account on the social network crashed “very close to the ship”, the boat and crew “are safe” and heading to the next port.

The UKMTO has stated that the attack took place at 5:13 p.m. (Spanish peninsular time) and the authorities are investigating the incident. It is worth mentioning that the Houthis have not yet commented on the matter, although they have carried out dozens of attacks against boats in the area.

The rebels, who have controlled the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, and other areas of the north and west of the country since 2015, have launched several attacks against Israeli territory and against ships with some type of Israeli connection as a result of the offensive launched against Gaza after the attacks carried out on October 7, 2023 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

In addition, they have attacked American and British ships and other strategic assets in response to the bombings of these countries against Yemen, in an intervention that Washington and London base on their desire to guarantee the safety of navigation in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.
