Argentina requests precautionary measures from the IACHR in the face of the “risk to the life” of its gendarme prosecuted in Venezuela

MADRID 3 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government of Argentina has requested this Thursday from the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) precautionary measures for the Argentine gendarme Nahuel Agustín Gallo, prosecuted “illegally and arbitrarily” in Venezuela for “links with terrorism”, which is why he has presented on the same day a complaint was filed before the International Criminal Court (ICC).

“Today, the Argentine Republic requested precautionary measures from the IACHR in favor of Nahuel Agustín Gallo, illegally detained in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in an act that constitutes a serious violation of Human Rights,” the Argentine Foreign Ministry announced in a note. of press broadcast on his social network account X.

The Argentine authorities have asked the Costa Rica-based organization to take “urgent measures” in order to protect the gendarme, “order his immediate release and ensure his safe return to Argentina”, appealing to the “imminent risk to life and integrity” of the gendarme, who last week was charged with “links to terrorism” by the Venezuelan Prosecutor’s Office.

“The Argentine Republic hopes that the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights will resolve quickly and demand compliance from the Venezuelan State. Human Rights and democracy must be respected and protected by all,” the Ministry has stated.

This same Thursday, the Government of Javier Milei has filed a complaint with the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the “arbitrary detention” and “forced disappearance” of the Gendarmerie non-commissioned officer. On December 8, Gallo was arrested when he tried to enter Venezuela by land from Colombia. The non-commissioned officer of the Argentine Gendarmerie intended to meet with his wife of Venezuelan nationality and their daughter, a version that Caracas has rejected.

The Government of Venezuela accuses Gallo of being part of an international conspiracy to attack the president, Nicolás Maduro, a claim that Argentina has denied, further clouding relations between both countries.
