Around ten dead in intercommunal clashes in central Somalia

MADRID 18 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Around ten people have been killed in inter-communal clashes on Sunday in the central Somali state of Galmudug, due to tensions over the ownership and use of grazing land east of the capital, Dhusamareb.

Local sources cited by the Somali news portal Hiiraan Online have detailed that clashes broke out in the Labi Ano area between armed members of two clans in the area, which has also caused the displacement of numerous residents.

Residents of Labi Ano have called on regional and central authorities to intervene to stop the clashes, although so far there has been no official reaction to the fighting in the area. For this reason, residents have called on community leaders to carry out mediation work.

Somalia has been the scene of dozens of clashes of this type due to disputes between communities over pasture and crop land, especially due to access limitations due to the conflict and the impact of climate change on the African country.
