MADRID, 9 (EUROPA PRESS)
Chadian security forces have killed at least 18 attackers who participated in the “failed destabilization attempt” inside the Chadian Presidential Palace, events that have resulted in the life of one agent.
Sources from the Chadian Government consulted by the news portal Alwihda Info have indicated that the group that attacked the building was made up of 24 people and that the remaining six have been injured. In addition, it is indicated that three members of the security forces have been injured, one of them seriously.
Shortly before, government spokesman Abderraman Kulamalá indicated that “the situation is under control” and that it was “a small incident,” adding that the security forces remain mobilized and that the threat has already been “eradicated.”
Although the Chadian spokesperson – who is also Foreign Minister – has not specified who was behind the attack, several media outlets point to members of the Boko Haram terrorist group.
Chad is now under the control of a military junta led by transitional president Mahamat Idriss Déby. The country faces recurring attacks by Boko Haram and its splinter group, Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA), which operate in the Lake Chad area, situated on the border between Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon.
