Nigerian authorities reported this Tuesday that at least five people have died and twenty have disappeared after the capsize of a boat off Bennett Island, in the state of Delta, in the south of the country.
Rescue teams continue their search efforts after finding six people alive, who have already been transferred to several hospitals in the area to receive medical treatment.
The Police, who have warned that the number of fatalities could increase, have indicated that the boat, a boat, suffered a shipwreck after hitting a submerged log in the Warri district, according to the Nigerian newspaper ‘Punch’.
Authorities have not yet determined how many people were on board the ship at the time of the incident, although emergency teams have warned of difficulties in carrying out their operations due to the remote area.
