MADRID 30 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Thai authorities have reported this Monday that at least three tourists have died this Monday, victims of a fire at The Ember hotel, located in one of the most touristic spots in the capital, Bangkok.
The victims have been identified as a 24-year-old Brazilian woman, a 27-year-old Ukrainian man and a 35-year-old American man. In addition, seven other people have been injured, mostly from inhaling smoke.
The first investigations suggest that the fire could have originated precisely in the Brazilian woman’s room, as detailed by the capital’s mayor, Chadchart Sittipunt, and reported by the ‘Bangkok Post’ newspaper.
The hotel, which housed about 75 guests at the time of the fire, did not have fire sprinkler systems, because, being a small accommodation, it is not required by law to equip this system.
The Ministry of Tourism has reported that the Executive will pay one million baht (just over 28,000 euros) in compensation for each death; and half a million (around 14,000 euros) to those people who have suffered injuries.
