Bet on “occupying” the Gaza Strip and facilitating the migration of Israel’s “enemies”

MADRID, 28 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Minister of National Security, the ultranationalist Itamar Ben Gvir, appealed this Thursday to the country’s authorities so that, despite the ceasefire agreed this week with the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah, they continue with their offensive. against the neighboring country, especially in the south.

Ben Gvir, recognized for his racist and xenophobic positions, participated this Thursday in the ceremony for the start of construction of a new Police station in the city of Sderot, in the south of Israel, from where he assured that Hezbollah has violated the ceasefire “again and again”, encouraging the authorities “not to stop”.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Tuesday an agreement in principle for a ceasefire with Hezbollah that still had to be approved by the cabinet. Shortly after, the authorities announced that the cabinet had approved the initiative with only one vote against, presumably that of Ben Gvir, who had previously classified Netanyahu’s proposal as a “historic mistake.”

Israel and Hezbollah reached an agreement on Tuesday for a ceasefire of about 60 days, which stipulates that both Hezbollah and Israeli troops must abandon southern Lebanese territory in favor of the regular Lebanese Army, which must take up positions in the area. to guarantee the security of northern Israel.

However, this Thursday the IDF confirmed an airstrike against Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon. According to the Lebanese military authorities and also Hezbollah, this was not the only attack carried out by Israel despite the ceasefire agreement.

The resurgence of hostilities in Beirut and southern Lebanon is part of the clashes that began more than a year ago after Hezbollah attacked Israel a day after the offensive of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on October 7, 2023. which left almost 1,200 dead and 240 hostages and served as a trigger for the current war in the Middle East.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) unleashed a new invasion of Lebanon on October 1 after weeks of intense bombings and attacks against the country, including the coordinated explosion of thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies linked to Hezbollah. . The attacks on Lebanon have decimated Hezbollah, which has lost its historic leader, Hasan Nasrallah.

ISRAEL MUST “REOCCUP THE GAZA STRIP”

On the other hand, the Minister of National Security has stressed that Israel has a “historic opportunity to achieve peace for decades” and to “overthrow Hamas”, according to statements reported by the Israeli newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.

“We have a historic opportunity to restore deterrence, reoccupy the Gaza Strip and encourage voluntary immigration of Israel’s enemies. This is what will bring peace to the south,” Ben Gvir stressed on the same day in which The Housing Minister, the ultra-Orthodox Yitzchak Goldknopf, has inspected areas of Gaza where he wants to rebuild settlements.

Recently the Minister of Finance, Bezalel Smotrich, with whom Ben Gvir usually agrees ideologically, has asserted that “it is possible to create a situation in which the population of Gaza is reduced to half its current size” within a period of about two years. thanks to promoting emigration from the enclave.
