Clashes between ELN, the Gulf Clan and dissidents displace 400 people in central-western Colombia

MADRID 23 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Some 400 people have had to leave their homes due to clashes between armed groups of the National Liberation Army, the Gulf Clan and dissidents in the municipality of Anorí, in the center-west of the country, according to its mayor, Gustavo Alfredo. Silva.

An ELN attack that occurred in the area two days ago left five soldiers dead, four injured and one civilian affected, according to authorities, but there is no record of more deaths in recent days due to these disputes related to the illegal control of resources. of the area, such as mining.

The troops were guarding and safeguarding the lives of former FARC members in the process of social reintegration. The attack led the authorities to deploy an operation of approximately 200 soldiers from the Fourteenth Brigade in order to “provide and guarantee protection to the civilian population in this sector,” reported the W Radio station.

Silva estimates that 190 families have arrived in nearby urban areas to escape the violence. “Everyone wants to return, but there are no conditions to return,” the president said in statements reported by Caracol Radio.
