MADRID 27 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Government of Colombia has reported this Tuesday that it will resume the negotiations that began in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, with the group that has split from the FARC Segunda Marquetalia, which does not have its leader ‘Iván Márquez’.
Both parties made the announcement at a press conference in the capital of Colombia, Bogotá, where they confirmed that the Executive of President Gustavo Petro will hold talks with this split renamed National Coordinator of the Bolivarian Army.
According to information collected by the Caracol radio station, both delegations have agreed to hold a meeting in mid-December in the municipality of Pasto, capital of the department of Nariño, in the west of the country.
The chief negotiator of the armed group, Walter Mendoza, has declared that the dissidents aspire to reach agreements, at least “in what remains of this Government”, that lead to the “consolidation of peace and true democracy” in the Latin American country.
For his part, the delegate of the Colombian Cabinet, Armando Novoa, has indicated that “the focus of the negotiation will be to be able to reach a peace agreement by 2025”, and has clarified that the authorities maintain their willingness to continue dialogue with “Iván Márquez” if he demonstrates a “will for peace.”
