Comedian sentenced to six years in prison in Belarus for “inciting hatred” against Lukashenko

MADRID 30 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Minsk Municipal Court of Justice has sentenced comedian Viacheslav Komissarenko to six years in prison, accused of several crimes for inciting hatred and uttering insults against the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko.

The comedian must serve a sentence in a security prison for the crimes of “inciting hatred” and uttering “insults” and “slander” against the president, according to information collected by the Belarusian news agency BelTA.

Komissarenko is known for his criticism of President Lukashenko and last September the Belarusian Investigative Committee opened a case against him. The comedian had fled to Russia in 2020 and just two years later he left the country.

Although at the moment the reason for the judicial accusations against Komissarenko is unknown, the comedian is the author of a joke that compares Lukashenko to a sparrow and alludes to the refusal of several countries to receive the president.
