The German Prosecutor’s Office has this Monday presented charges against four alleged members of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) arrested at the end of last year and who are accused of belonging to a terrorist organization.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office in the city of Karlsruhe, these four alleged Hamas members would have acted for years as assets of the group abroad, while holding “important positions” within the Islamist organization.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the accused had “direct links with leaders of the military wing” of Hamas. Three of the accused were arrested in Berlin and a fourth in the Dutch city of Rotterdam in December 2023.

Authorities accuse these four alleged Hamas members of being involved in establishing and maintaining weapons depots for the group in Europe with the ultimate goal of preparing attacks against Jewish institutions on the continent.

“The association considered the Israeli Embassy in Berlin, the US air base in Rammstein or the surroundings of Tempelhof airport in Berlin as possible targets,” the German Public Ministry detailed in a statement.

The Prosecutor’s Office compiles alleged trips made by the accused to Bulgaria, Denmark or Poland, among others, to establish weapons warehouses and, in other cases, to transport weapons from these locations to Germany.
