The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced early this Sunday the death of a 21-year-old Israeli reservist during clashes in the northern Gaza Strip.
The Army itself has identified the deceased as Idan Kenan, “sergeant first class belonging to the Nahshon Battalion, of the Kfir Brigade, who died in combat” in the north of the Palestinian enclave, according to the official announcement shared by the IDF on its website and its other official channels.
Kenan worked as a mathematics teacher and served in the Israeli forces since he enlisted for reserve service on October 7, according to the ‘Times of Israel’ newspaper.
The Gazan authorities, controlled by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), have estimated this Saturday at 43,799 deaths and 103,601 injuries due to the military offensive unleashed by Israel against the enclave after the attacks carried out on October 7, 2023 by the group. Islamist and other Palestinian factions, including 35 dead and 111 injured during the last 24 hours.
The offensive against Gaza was launched after the aforementioned attacks on October 7, 2023, which left some 1,200 dead and nearly 250 kidnapped, according to Israeli authorities. Added to these tolls are more than 750 Palestinians killed at the hands of Israeli security forces and in attacks carried out by settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
