MADRID 21 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of Iran, Masud Pezeshkian, asked Pope Francis this Wednesday to exercise his “good offices” to stop the “inhuman aggression” of the Israeli Government against the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, and to reach a ceasefire in “land holy”, and in turn “encourage” especially Christian world leaders to contribute to these efforts.
“In this unstable situation and with the possibility of war spreading in the region, I respectfully ask you, as head of the Catholic Church, to use your good offices to prevent the continuation of inhuman aggression, to establish peace and a ceasefire, and create an opportunity for the delivery of humanitarian aid to the victims,” declared the Iranian president.
Pezeshkian has denounced “the genocide and the massive destruction of urban and health infrastructure”, regretting that “these violations of Human Rights” are occurring in “holy lands that have been the birthplace of prophets and messengers of peace and tranquility for humanity.”
The president of the Islamic Republic of Iran has defended his Government’s “special efforts” to “avoid further killings and injuries to innocent people” despite the “existence of threats to regional and global peace and security.”
The head of the Organization of Culture and Relations of Iran, Mohamed Mehdi Imanipour, conveyed this message to the pontiff within the framework of the 12th edition of the interreligious dialogue between Iran and the Vatican, which was held in Italy this week.
