The Israeli Army confirmed this Friday the death of Hamza Ziyadne, one of those kidnapped during the attacks carried out on October 7, 2023 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions, after the recovery of his body. and the body of his father in a tunnel in the city of Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip.

Thus, he indicated in a statement that he has informed his family that Hamza “died under Hamas captivity”, one day after his father, Yusef, was buried. “Hamza and Yusef were kidnapped on October 7 and died in Hamas captivity,” he stressed.

“The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet share the family’s pain in these difficult times,” he said, before asserting that the authorities “are making every possible effort to achieve the return of everyone as soon as possible.” the kidnapped.”

The Hostage Families Forum has stated after the Israeli Army’s announcement that both Hamza and Yusef “could have been saved in an agreement”, in reference to a pact with Hamas for the release of hostages, as reported by the Israeli newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.

For this reason, he has called on the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, to accelerate efforts to reach an agreement. “We have a historic window of opportunity and we must not lose it. You have the mandate of the people. Bring them back home,” he stressed.

Both men were kidnapped from Kibbutz Holit along with Bilal and Aisha, Hamza’s siblings. The latter two were released at the end of November 2023 within the framework of a truce that involved the release of 105 hostages by the Palestinian Islamist group.

Israeli authorities estimate that 94 of the 251 kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 remain held in Gaza, including the bodies of 34 people whose deaths have already been confirmed by the Israeli military.

To date, eight hostages have been rescued alive, while the Israeli military has recovered the bodies of 40 of those kidnapped, while three died after being shot by Israeli soldiers when they tried to escape their captors.

The Israeli Army launched an offensive against Gaza after the aforementioned attacks on October 7, 2023, which left some 1,200 dead. Since then, Gazan authorities, controlled by Hamas, have reported the deaths of more than 46,000 people.
