BRUSELAS 28 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, warned this Thursday that Israel is being “colonized” from within by extremist and violent sectors, so Europe has to be aware that it is dealing with an Israel “different” since the war in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
In statements from Brussels, where he is participating in a meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, he pointed out the difficulty of implementing concrete measures against an Israel that is being “colonized” by radicalism.
“Unfortunately, Israeli society is being colonized from within by violent and extremist people. The colonizers not only expand Israeli territory, but the colonization of people’s minds is the most dangerous thing that Israeli society faces because damages the foundations of its democracy,” he warned.
Borrell has thus warned that Europe finds itself in a “different” Israel after the offensive launched in 2023 against Gaza, which this year has extended to Lebanon, in response to the Hamas attacks of October 7.
In any case, the Spanish politician has insisted that an alliance of 90 countries is pushing to take practical steps towards a two-state solution. “Now is the time and it must continue to be the time,” defended the head of European diplomacy, stressing that support for the two-state solution cannot be just rhetoric but must be materialized with economic and political measures.
In this sense, the High Representative, on his last day in office before giving way to the former Prime Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas, has insisted that we must deal with the arrest warrant of the International Criminal Court (ICC) against the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu.
“It is in Europe’s honor to implement and fully respect the decision of the courts. If this is not the case, there is no good future for Justice,” he pointed out, ensuring that Europeans should not “procrastinate” and the Israeli authorities should not They can hide behind the fact that the ICC acts out of “anti-Semitism.” “Stop hiding behind anti-Semitism, it has nothing to do with that,” he criticized.
