MADRID 5 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The National Assembly of Venezuela held its first session of the 2025-2026 legislative period this Sunday and re-elected Jorge Rodríguez as president in a session at the Federal Palace.

Rodríguez, candidate of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), has prevailed over the other candidate who had presented himself, Juan Carlos Alvarado, general secretary of the historic conservative party Independent Electoral Political Organization Committee (COPEI), according to the TeleSur network. .

The position of first vice president of the National Assembly will go to Pedro Infante, ahead of Anyelith Tamayo. Second vice president will once again be América Pérez, who renews the position after defeating Alfonso Campos.

In the Secretariat and Undersecretariat of the Legislative Branch, the lawyer María Alejandra Hernández and the political scientist José Omar Molina were ratified.

Afterwards, the elected deputies have been sworn in, thus establishing the Board of Directors of the National Assembly of Venezuela for the 2025-2026 legislative period.

The constitution of the new National Assembly is key since Venezuelan laws specify that the new president of the country must be sworn in before this Chamber. After the July 28 elections, the opposition has denounced fraud and intends for its candidate, Edmundo González, to take office instead of Nicolás Maduro.
