Iran’s Supreme Leader Says ICC Measure ‘Not Enough’, Calls for Capital Punishment for Israel’s ‘Criminal Leaders’
MADRID, 25 (EUROPA PRESS)
Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said Monday that courts should issue “death sentences” instead of arrest warrants against Israel’s leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for “crimes.” of war” perpetrated by the Israeli Army in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
“What the Zionist regime has done in Gaza and Lebanon is not a victory, but a war crime,” he said, after the International Criminal Court (ICC) last week issued arrest warrants against Netanyahu and his former minister of Defense Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes within the framework of the offensive in Gaza.
Thus, he stressed during a speech before members of the Basij volunteer force that these arrest warrants “are not enough” and has demanded that “death sentences” be issued against “Netanyahu and the criminal leaders of his regime,” according to the video of the event, broadcast through its own website.
Khamenei has also stressed that “the enemy has not won in Gaza and Lebanon” and that “the enemy will not win in Gaza and Lebanon.” “Today, the resistance front is expanding as much as possible. Tomorrow, this expansion will multiply,” he added, referring to the armed groups that Tehran supports in the region, including the Movement of Islamic Resistance (Hamas) and the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah.
On the other hand, the Iranian supreme leader has emphasized that “the Zionist regime will be eliminated” and has reiterated that “bombing the homes of the population in Gaza and Lebanon is not a victory.” “Fools should not think that they win by bombing houses and hospitals. The arrest warrants were issued against Netanyahu and Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity perpetrated within the framework of the military offensive launched more than a year ago against the Gaza Strip in response to the attacks carried out on October 7, 2023. by Hamas and other Palestinian factions, which left nearly 1,200 dead and about 250 kidnapped, according to Israeli authorities.
The court has also ordered the arrest of the head of Hamas’ military wing, Mohamed Diab al Masri, known as ‘Abú Deif’, after other previously identified leaders of the Islamist group, Yahya Sinwar and Ismail Haniye, have died in recent months. in Israeli operations. Israel has presumed him dead, although the group has not officially confirmed this.
