“Those responsible for January 8 are being investigated and punished. No one has been or will be unjustly imprisoned. Everyone will pay for their crimes, including those who planned the assassination of the president,” said Lula, who has promised “ample right to defense.” and the presumption of innocence of suspects.

“We are still here. We are here to say that we are alive, that democracy is alive, contrary to what the coup plotters planned,” said Lula, who thanked the heads of the Armed Forces for attending this event, symbolizing thus, he said, his commitment to the defense of national sovereignty.

Before his speech, Lula participated in a previous event to place the twenty works of art that had to be restored after the passage of the far-right mob related to former president Jair Bolsonaro that broke into the facilities of the Planalto Palace, headquarters of the Executive. .

For his part, the vice president of the Supreme Court, Luiz Edson Fachin, has used his speaking time to emphasize that those responsible for those attacks must be punished, and that they must be remembered in the coming years to prevent them from happening again.

“We need to remember what happened so that new generations do not forget the pain of a dictatorship and the evils that authoritarianism brings. We exist in democracy, alive and we will never give up on it,” he emphasized.
