The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has assured that “the popular victory of July 28 was ratified once again” during the demonstrations called this Thursday by the ruling party, on the eve of the investiture in which he is expected to take office. charge for the second time.

“Bolivarian fury today ratified the victory of the country, the victory of peace,” the president declared on his Telegram channel, while celebrating that “the Bolivarian people, the ordinary and mature people of the country filled the avenues, streets and neighborhoods with their strength and loyalty”.

Maduro has accompanied these statements with a series of videos and images in which groups of protesters can be observed in different parts of the national territory. “My message is one of joy, satisfaction and commitment; together we become the custodians of peace and defenders of constitutionality and national sovereignty. We have matured!” he noted.

On the same day, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) has accused the Venezuelan authorities of undertaking “terrorist practices” with the aim of “sowing fear and exercising control over the population”, denouncing the detention and forced disappearance of a twenty people, among whom are the former presidential candidate Enrique Márquez and Rafael Tudares, son-in-law of the opponent Edmundo González, within the framework of the protests against Maduro’s investiture since the beginning of this week.

In addition, opposition leader María Corina Machado confirmed that she had been detained and later released by the “repressive forces of the regime” after finishing a demonstration held this Thursday near Caracas in the hours before the presidential inauguration.
