MADRID 11 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The suspended vice president of Ecuador Verónica Abad has reiterated this Friday that the abuses of power against her by the country’s president, Daniel Noboa, “continue” and has assured that she will continue fighting for the rights of Ecuadorians, after revealing the alleged collusion of the Prosecutor’s Office and some judicial bodies in this “intimidation.”
“The persecution, violation of the democratic order and abuse of power continues (…). The only person responsible for the integrity of my life and my family is your Government, Mr. Daniel Noboa, and your cabinet,” Abad denounced in a publication on your account on the social network X.
The dismissed vice president has detailed the existence of a criminal complaint against her, filed on January 4 at the Attorney General’s Office for “usurpation and illegal retention of command”, as she discovered after a press conference held the day before with the secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro.
“Not content with that, today we received the revocation of my protection measures from the Cantonal Human Rights Board carried out by a new judge, Esteban Calderón, favorable to the interests of the Dictator/Candidate. Did the President of the Judiciary make another surprise visit? Explain, why is the change of the judge in my case to intimidate me?” he added in the same message, in which he asserted that he will continue “defending the freedom and independence of the Justice, Democracy and respect for the Rights of Ecuadorians.”
These statements come after Abad accused Noboa this Thursday of breaking the “constitutional order” and trying to carry out a coup d’état by ceding the Presidency to the current vice president, Cynthia Gellibert.
The suspended vice president had previously warned that if the presidential succession was consummated in Gellibert, who before taking office was general secretary of the Public Administration and Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic, it would represent a breach of the Constitution.
Noboa, who is running for the presidential elections in February, has resisted temporarily resigning as head of state to participate in the campaign, as established by the Constitution, claiming that he is fulfilling the mandate left by former president Guillermo Lasso in 2023.
The Government, for its part, maintained when making the decision to remove Abad that the suspended vice president had left an “institutional vacuum” by requesting vacations without authorization and without a license accepted by the National Assembly, in addition to not appearing until December 27. in Ankara, Turkey, to fulfill her appointment as counselor on economic issues at the Ecuadorian Embassy.
