Ralf Rangnick's dream Man Utd line up after last-gasp deadline day transfers are secured

Manchester United's priority has been reducing the wage bill and improving the culture in the dressing room, but it's been extremely quiet in regards to arrivals in January

Manchester United's focus has been on trimming their bloated squad in January as Ralf Rangnick still waits for his first signing as Old Trafford boss.

The Red Devils have parted ways with several players who are unhappy at the club including Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial.

The Dutchman is set to join Everton on loan until the end of the season as Frank Lampard arrives at Goodison as their new boss.

Martial has penned a short-term deal with Sevilla after his fallout with Rangnick as the interim boss claimed he refused to play against Aston Villa.

Jesse Lingard has been linked with a move to Newcastle on deadline day, but United are demanding a loan fee which has thrown the deal in doubt.

Phil Jones is also likely to stay after rejecting a loan move to Bordeaux.

United's priority has been reducing the wage bill and improving the culture in the dressing room, instead of arrivals.

It's been extremely quiet on that front, largely due to the uncertainty surrounding the German's future.

It's likely there will be a new man in the dugout come to the end of the season so United chiefs are hesitant to splash the cash this month.

One area United are desperate to strengthen before the window closes is the midfield as the Red Devils have been linked with several players in that department this month.

Rangnick is claimed to be keen on a reunion with Amadou Haidara who he knows well from his time at RB Leipzig.

Ruben Neves has continually been linked with a switch to Old Trafford while reports suggest Yves Bissouma is the latest name being considered with Aston Villa and Tottenham also interested in the Brighton man.

Haidara seems the most likely solution if there is a new arrival in the middle of the park, given Rangnick's prior relationship with the player - and he would go straight into his starting XI given United's well-documented struggles in midfield.

The international would sit at the base of the midfield alongside Scott McTominay who has impressed during the first half of the season with Fred dropping to the bench.

David de Gea, who has rediscovered his best form this term, will remain the no.1 keeper with a back four of Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Alex Telles and Diogo Dalot, who have been preferred to Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka recently.

Bruno Fernandes will play slightly ahead of Haidara and McTominay to complete the midfield three.

Rangnick will look to get the best out of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford who have both struggled this season with the England pair supporting Cristiano Ronaldo up front.

Potential Man Utd XI: De Gea, Varane, Maguire, Telles, Dalot, McTominay, Haidara, Bruno Fernandes, Sancho, Rashford, Ronaldo.
