Report: Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano names the striker at the top of Arsenal’s shortlist.

Speaking to Sky Sports this week, David Ornstein claimed that Gabriel Jesus of Manchester City is at the top of Arsenal’s list for signings in the striker position.

Jesus reportedly does exactly what Mikel Arteta is looking for in a striker, as well as having a personal relationship with both Arteta and Arsenal technical director Edu.

Ornstein added that it’s not yet clear whether Manchester City will let Jesus go, but with no sign of contract talks on the horizon, a deal is very possible. Though other suitors are also in the mix.

Fabrizio Romano claims Arsenal are preparing their opening bid for Jesus. Manchester City are asking for around €50-60m to sell – even if they can’t extend his deal.

Brazilian outlet UOL reported earlier in the week that Arsenal had advanced in negotiations with Manchester City over the signing.

UOL claim Arsenal are now closer in terms of transfer value, salaries, agent fees, and a five-year contract for the striker.

The same outlet add that negotiations are on course for a deal worth €50m, though perhaps Romano’s suggestion that Arsenal are only now preparing their opening bid implies we aren’t quite so close to a club-to-club agreement.

At this stage, Jesus still isn’t ruling out taking up other offers. You’d imagine he’d turn to an alternative should Arsenal fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Fabrizio Romano reported this week that Gabriel Jesus’ agent Marcelo Pettinati told him: “We had talks with Arsenal about Gabriel Jesus, we like the project – it’s a possibility we’re discussing.
“There are 6 more clubs interested in Gabriel – he’s focused on final games with Man City, we’ll see.”
