The Real Betis goalkeeper Rui Silva has been stung a bit this Tuesday, in an interview given to Andalusian public radio. Read this perception and the assertive tone of his words in the complete absence of controversy, since it has been quite the opposite: a pique as a synonym for a forceful plea of commitmentwhen speaking about your short-term future in the green and white club; self-criticismanalyzing the possible weak points of his game; and of course of ambitionadmitting that this squad has a lot to improve after a very irregular start to the season but also showing full confidence in the ability of the Heliopolitan dressing room to fight for high levels in LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Conference League. In this last sense, the Portuguese international goalkeeper has turned the page from Saturday’s painful setback in Valencia and is only thinking about beating Czech FK Mladá Boleslav this Thursday.
“On Sunday it was harder to digest the defeat, but now we are focused on Thursday’s game. “We have to turn the page,” said Rui Silva in an interview for the program ‘The Move of Seville’ of Channel On Radio. “After everything that happened there and the tributes, we knew they were going to leave motivated. We we entered a little disconnectedwe reacted well and had a good first half, but then I don’t know what happened to us in those first 15 minutes of the second halfwith many individual errors that cost us dearly. We conceded three goals very quickly and from then on it was very difficult for us,” he analyzed, admitting that “the team lacks consistency”: “We can’t go out to see what happens in the game, because then they score a goal and it’s complicated. “We have to leave plugged in.” Leader’s words (and tone).
Rui Silva: “Are you saying I have bad footwork?”
On an individual level, Rui Silva does not avoid self-criticism either, but he is happy to continue as a starter and to return to the national team. “I needed that extra motivation. I hadn’t gone for two years and returning to Portugal is a privilege for me“, he stated, before showing his surprise when asked about playing with his feet as one of the aspects that has been criticized the most and also one of the ones that has improved the most lately: “Are you saying I’m bad with my feet? I always work the same. I try to improve. It is true that sometimes I have not been precisebut I don’t think he has bad footwork. The statistics support it.”
“It is also true that this year I am playing more regularly and that gives me confidence when it comes to having more peace of mind when making decisions. Maybe before I was hasty. It’s difficult. Sometimes at home… you don’t get one, you try and you don’t get another… You get nervous, people whisper or whistle at you…”he later acknowledged, assuming that it was difficult for him. Along the same lines, he regretted that at Betis he did not have the luck he had at Granada CF in saving penalties. “It’s 50%; but I work the same as before,” he insisted.
Rui Silva categorically rules out a possible exit
He was equally blunt when talking about a possible departure from Betis in the next transfer windows. He closes that possibility outright, putting an end to the rumors that have come out and may come out again regarding his possible sale to a club in his country, something that he himself slipped as an option: “My future is at Betis. I have another year and a half here, I am very happy, this year I have more confidence in the coach and I am calmer. “I feel safe.”
“About the future, we’ll see, when I said in an interview that I would like to play for one of the big teams in Portugal I was referring to the distant future.. I’m not considering leaving now. There was talk of a possible departure in the summer and also last winter; but then, nothing. For a transfer to take place there must be an agreement between all parties. If there is not, everything comes to nothing. I am very happy, I’m in a big club and I’m playing a lot, which gives me the confidence that every goalkeeper needs,” he remarked.
The room for improvement for Betis and the magic of Isco Alarcón
“We had a good stretch before this last break, after leaving the previous one with defeats against Legia and Sevilla. We went seven games without losing, but in Valencia we were not good, “We have to learn and improve, but this team has room to grow.”he claimed, admitting the need to greatly improve in both areas. “We generate a lot up top but then we lack that point of efficiency that Valencia had the other day, which had eight goals and scored four against us. We also have to defend better to reduce the number of goals against again (16 in 14 games). “We have to be strong at the back and also improve in the final third,” added the Portuguese goalkeeper, eager to see him playing again. Isco Alarcón: “He has a good feeling, after two operations it is complicated, but he works hard and is very excited. Let’s hope he recovers well, that he will be with us soon and that he will do his magic“.
