MADRID 30 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The authorities of the Russian republic of Dagestan, located in the Caucasus region, reported early this Saturday the temporary suspension of operations at the Makhachkala-Uytash airport due to a drone threat by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. .
This was confirmed by the general director of the airport, Said Ramazanov, in statements to Russian state agencies, where he specified that the suspension of operations will last at least until noon (local time).
The Makhachkala-Uytash airport, located on the shores of the Caspian Sea, is one of the seven facilities of this type in the republic of Dagestan, key in air traffic to Armenia and Azerbaijan, and especially to the territory of Georgia.
The airfield already gained notoriety in October last year, when a crowd broke into the facilities upon the arrival of a flight from Israel, forcing the authorities of Dagestan, a Muslim-majority region, to close the airport and divert flights.
Videos posted on social media even showed crowds on the runway, with people even waving Palestinian flags, and forcing their way inside the airport facilities.
