Moscow points to an “extremely complicated international situation” and denounces Washington’s “extremely hostile” stance
MADRID, 27 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Riabkov, responsible for arms control in the country, warned the United States this Friday that Moscow is considering a wide range of measures on nuclear testing in the event that Washington carries out a test once that Republican Donald Trump returns to the White House in January 2025.
Riabkov has pointed out in statements given to the Russian newspaper ‘Kommersant’ that “the international situation is extremely complicated” and that “US policy in several aspects is extremely hostile” towards Russia.
“The options regarding our actions to guarantee security and the complexity of possible actions and measures to achieve this and send appropriate political signals, regardless of what professionals consider, do not contain exceptions,” said the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister.
The American newspaper ‘The Washington Post’ reported in 2020 that Trump considered during his first term the possibility of carrying out what would have been Washington’s first nuclear test since 1992.
For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin pulled Moscow out of the treaty banning nuclear tests in 2023, signed by Russia in 1996 and ratified in 2000, arguing that Washington never ratified the treaty despite also signing it in 1996.
