MADRID 27 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, confirmed this Wednesday that part of her government has already contacted members of the campaign team and the future Administration of the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, with whom there has already been tensions due to its tariff policy.
During her usual morning press conference, President Sheinbaum assured that the meeting with her American counterpart will take place “in due course”, and stressed that the Mexican authorities “are not standing idly by.”
Thus, Sheinbaum has detailed that, to date, the Foreign Minister, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, and his Economy counterpart, Marcelo Ebrard, have already maintained contacts with members of Trump’s team. “The idea is that these days we can communicate,” said the Mexican leader.
These words from Sheinbaum come after tensions between both leaders once Trump has promised to impose 25 percent tariffs on imports from Mexico. Sheinbaum responded with a letter in which he urged the magnate to “not threaten” and sit at the table to resolve the disagreements.
