MADRID 7 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The South Korean Justice on Tuesday extended the deadline to arrest President Yoon Suk Yeol, dismissed by Parliament after declaring martial law at the beginning of December, a situation that has caused a political crisis in the Asian country.
The Western District Court of Seoul, located in the capital, has approved the request presented by the Office for Corruption Cases of Senior Officials (CIO) after the first arrest warrant issued by the Justice expired on Monday without the arrest of Yoon, who remains barricaded in the presidential residence thanks to the collaboration of his security service, having materialized.
On Friday, security personnel blocked the entrance to the residence, so uncertainty remains about Yoon’s future. If he is finally detained, he will only be able to spend 48 hours in custody before being released again, according to the legislation.
Although for now the details regarding the duration of the new period to detain him have not been revealed, it is likely that it will be seven days given the difficulties presented previously. The first request was submitted on December 30, after Yoon was charged with incitement to insurrection and abuse of power.
This same Tuesday, the head of the CIO, Oh Dong Woon, apologized for not having achieved the arrest of the dismissed president within the previous deadline and has promised to carry it out in the coming days.
