The alleged leader of the sect Lev Tahor in Guatemala arrested in El Salvador

MADRID 3 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Guatemalan Prosecutor’s Office reported this Thursday of the arrest in El Salvador of the leader of the Jewish sect Lev Tahor, Jonathan Emmanuel Cardona Castillo, days after Interpol activated an international red alert for human trafficking in the form of forced pregnancy, rape and child abuse.

According to prosecutor Juan Francisco Reyes, the Public Ministry has initiated the corresponding proceedings to allow the extradition of the detainee to Guatemala, where he will be placed at the disposal of the corresponding jurisdictional body.

The agency has indicated that four teenagers came to file complaints, including one for rape. For this reason, the National Institute of Forensic Sciences provided expert opinions on the possible commission of abuse.

In the Interpol file, Cardona is identified as a 23-year-old man born in La Libertad, El Salvador, in April 2001. Of Salvadoran and Guatemalan nationality, he speaks Spanish and Hebrew.

In mid-December, Guatemalan security forces rescued 160 minors on a property in San Rosa, about 90 kilometers from Guatemala City, after several complaints of alleged abuse. They also found several bones in a box.

Two days after the operation, a group from the sect broke into the government protection center where they were interned and abducted the minors, although the authorities recovered them. The faithful clashed with the Police and managed to overcome the security cordon established to guard the center.
