The death toll from forest fires in the Californian city of Los Angeles (USA) rises to eleven

The US authorities have reported this Friday that the number of fatalities has risen to eleven due to the uncontrolled fires that are destroying entire neighborhoods in the city of Los Angeles, in the US state of California.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Department has communicated through its website that five of the deaths are from the Palisades fire, in the south of the US state of California, and six from the Eaton fire.

Authorities have warned that the true number of victims will not be known until investigators can enter the neighborhoods. The California Fire Department reported this Friday that the large fire in Palisades has already devastated 8,200 hectares and is 8 percent contained.

The other two secondary fires, Eaton and Kenneth, the latter caused, have respectively consumed 5,647 hectares and 404 hectares and are 3 and 35 percent contained, as announced by the head of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Kristin Crowley, at a press conference this Friday.

For his part, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna has announced that this coming evening (around 6:00 p.m. local time) a twelve-hour curfew will once again come into effect “to protect homes.” “abandoned” from “robberies and looting in the area”, as he announced at the same press conference.

More than 153,000 residents remain under mandatory evacuation orders and another 166,000 are under notice this Friday, the sheriff added during his appearance, reported by the North American media.
