The German Prosecutor’s Office charges three people with spying for China

KARLSRUHE (ALEMANIA), 9 (DPA/EP)

The German Prosecutor’s Office has formally charged three people arrested in April 2024 in the cities of Dusseldorf and Bad Homburg, on the outskirts of Frankfurt, for collecting information about military technology to transfer it to the Chinese Intelligence services.

The main suspect in this plot has since been detained, after investigators have allegedly confirmed that since 2017 he had been collaborating with the Chinese Ministry of State Security.

With the help of a company owned by his two accomplices, a married couple, he would have provided information on technology that could be used for military purposes in the Asian giant. This couple had apparently contacted companies and scientific institutions.

In particular, the Prosecutor’s Office suspects that all of them negotiated data on research projects related to the expansion of the naval combat capacity of the Chinese Armed Forces.
