The Israeli soldier investigated in Brazil for war crimes leaves the country

MADRID 5 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Israeli soldier investigated by the Brazilian justice system for the alleged commission of war crimes in Gaza has left the South American country, as confirmed by sources close to Israeli public radio and television.

A Brazilian federal court issued an urgent investigation order against this soldier, at that time on vacation in the country, for participating in the demolition with explosives of a residential block in the Gaza Strip, during a combat situation, in November 2024 .

The complaint against him was filed by the Palestinian organization Hind Rajab, which specializes in tracking the social networks of IDF soldiers traveling around the world, and includes video recordings, geolocation data and photographs showing the accused placing explosives and participating in the destruction “of entire neighborhoods” that would demonstrate the direct involvement of the person under investigation.

The leader of the opposition, Yair Lapid, has harshly criticized the Government for this incident, which in his opinion demonstrates the collapse of the public image of the Israeli Army outside the country’s borders.

“The fact that an Israeli reservist was forced to flee Brazil in the middle of the night to avoid being arrested for fighting in Gaza is a huge political failure by an irresponsible government that simply does not know how to work,” said the opposition leader. and former prime minister in statements reported by the ‘Times of Israel’.

“It cannot be that IDF soldiers, both regular service and reservists, are afraid to travel abroad for fear of being arrested,” he lamented.
