The Lebanese Army deploys soldiers in areas of southern Lebanon after Israel’s withdrawal

MADRID 6 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Lebanese Army reported this Monday that its forces have been deployed in the surroundings of Naqura, near the southern border with Israel, after the withdrawal of the Israeli Army within the framework of the ceasefire agreement signed with the Shiite militia party. Hezbollah.

“The deployment will continue in the next phase and specialized units will carry out a technical reconnaissance of the town to remove unexploded ordnance,” the Lebanese Armed Forces said in a brief statement.

The deployment has been carried out in coordination with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and with the mechanism that supervises compliance with the ceasefire signed between Israel and Hezbollah, which met this Monday in the presence of the envoy American, Amos Hochstein.

The Lebanese authorities and Hezbollah have denounced on several occasions that Israel has violated the ceasefire, although the Israeli Army has defended that it is responding to actions perpetrated by the Shiite militia party, backed by Iran.

Hezbollah Secretary General Naim Qassem stressed on Saturday that it was only thanks to the strength and means of the militias that Israel was unable to penetrate Lebanese territory and that the country only continues to exist thanks to armed resistance to the Israeli invasion.
