The mayor of Warsaw, Rafal Trzaskowski, this Saturday became the candidate for the 2025 presidential elections of the Civic Coalition, led by the Civic Platform of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, after winning the primaries.

Trzaskowski has won 74.75 percent of the votes compared to his main rival, Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, who has obtained 25.25 percent of the support. The results were announced during the day by Tusk himself, who indicated that a total of 22,126 votes have been cast.

The primaries were held on Friday starting at 8:00 (local time) and ended at midnight. In total, some 25,000 members of the parties that make up the coalition were expected to vote.

“I have a lot of energy, determination and courage to win the Law and Justice party (Pis),” said the current mayor of the Polish capital in relation to the party of which the current head of state, Andrzej Duda, was a member until the year 2015.

Thus, he has expressed that the coalition “comes out stronger” from this process and has thanked the voters, according to information collected by the PAP news agency.

The electoral campaign is scheduled to begin on January 8, while the first round of the elections will take place in the month of May, as announced by the president of Parliament, Shimon Nolovnia, who has opted to start it “as soon as possible.” possible”.
