The Mexican president is against the mass deportations of migrants proposed by Trump

MADRID 21 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has come out against this Thursday the mass deportations of migrants proposed by the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, who has promised to declare a national emergency to carry out his controversial plan with the help of the American military.

“Evidently we do not agree that migrants are treated as criminals. That is why justice institutions exist anywhere in the world,” he stressed in a press conference, adding that “they benefit the United States economy.”

The Mexican president has assured that in the event that the future Trump Administration authorizes mass deportations, the Government of Mexico is willing to receive the migrants. “We have a plan, we are prepared,” he highlighted.

In this sense, Sheinbaum has stated that the Mexican cabinet will meet to discuss the issues to be discussed with Trump, including trade or migration. “We are going to work (to) demonstrate that our compatriots who are on the other side of the border do not have to be deported,” he concluded.

Trump stated on Monday in a message published on the Truth Social social network that once he reaches the White House he will declare a national emergency in order to have military resources to implement his promise of mass deportations.

A week ago, Tom Homan was appointed head of immigration policy. The known as ‘border czar’ is considered the ideologue behind the separation of thousands of children from their families in the first Trump administration, while Kristi Noem has been chosen as Secretary of Homeland Security.
