MADRID 2 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The new authorities that govern Syria have announced this Thursday the start of a security operation in several neighborhoods of the city of Homs, in the northwest of the country, to try to locate sympathizers of the Bashar al Assad regime who have not agreed to depose the weapons.
Among the objectives of this operation, which is carried out by the Department of Military Operations in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior, is also the confiscation of weapons and ammunition that would remain hidden among the civilian population, according to the official SANA news agency.
The administration formed in Syria after the fall of Al Assad in December has urged all groups that supported the old regime to give up weapons and support the new authorities, who are still trying to shape a transition that could last several years.
The main person responsible for the offensive that overthrew Al Assad, Ahmed Hussein al Shara, also known as Abu Mohamed al Golani and leader of the jihadist group Hayet Tahrir al Sham (HTS), has indicated a potential period of four years to complete all the changes and has promised that they will respect the rights of all minorities.
