Meanwhile, numerous attacks on energy infrastructure across the country have left millions of people without heat, electricity and water in the middle of winter, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Wednesday.
According to United Nations agencies, Ukraine has lost more than 60 percent of its electricity generating capacity, while dozens of facilities have been severely damaged or completely destroyed, as well as various infrastructure and equipment.
The situation is “desperate”, notes the NGO World Vision, in areas close to the northern, eastern and southern fronts. Local authorities report that some 900,000 people will need urgent help to survive these coming months.
