The death toll from the missile attack carried out this Sunday by the Russian Army against a densely populated area of the Ukrainian city of Sumi has increased to ten dead and 52 injured, according to the authorities of the European country.

“Currently we know that there are 52 injured. Damaged houses, vehicles, broken glass everywhere… Sunday night for the city of Sumi has become hell, a tragedy brought to our land by Russia,” declared the head of the Sumi regional military administration, Volodimir Artiukh, from the site of the attack, confirming that there is currently no power in the town.

In a message on his Telegram channel, Artiukh has indicated that more than 400 residents have been evacuated from the attacked area, where rescue teams and the Police are working, in addition to a group of “indomitable” volunteers among residents of the neighborhood. and from other areas of the city that “join in to help the victims.”

“The citizens of Sumi united in love and mercy towards their compatriots and in hatred of the enemy that kills innocent children,” he said.

According to the complaint from the Ukrainian Prosecutor’s Office, the attack took place around 8:37 p.m. (7:37 p.m. in mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands) causing damage to at least ten high-rise buildings. The authorities have confirmed two minors aged nine and fourteen among the deceased and three children among the injured, but it is expected that this toll could increase since there has been a second attack “probably with a ballistic missile” against “critical infrastructure” in 00:10 a.m. (11:10 p.m. in mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands).

For his part, the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, has condemned the “massive” attack by the Russian Army against civilians in Ukraine, “specifically targeting energy infrastructure, including nuclear, before winter.” “Ukraine needs more air defense, now! This is the priority that I will present to the ministers at the Foreign Affairs Council and the Defense Council,” which will take place this Monday in Brussels.
