The Republican Party of Chile will not hold primaries and Kast will participate directly in the 2025 presidential elections

MADRID 28 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Republican Party of Chile announced this Thursday that it will not hold primary elections to designate its candidate for next year’s presidential elections, thus confirming that its leader, José Antonio Kast, will once again be its candidate in the elections, as has already happened. in 2021, when he reached the second round against the now president, Gabriel Boric.

This was announced by the president of the formation, Arturo Squella, who has assured that Kast is the right person to face the main challenges facing the country, especially the security crisis due to organized crime and drug trafficking. The president of the Republican Party has directly mentioned the criminal organization Tren de Aragua as one of the main challenges.

“One wonders if those who could not even face the barricades will be the right people to face the Aragua Train. Of course not,” said Squella, who sees Kast as the right person to face these challenges. , as reported by the news portal BioBio Chile.

According to Squella, Kast is the person “who has the character to do what needs to be done in terms of public security”, something “all the surveys say”, and who has taken the example of other countries such as El Salvador, Italy or Hungary to take note of “what are the measures that must be implemented”.

“For that you have to have courage and pants, and José Antonio Kast has it,” stressed Squella, who says that with the leader of the Republican Party as a candidate, Chile will be able to elect a president who will recover “the security and peace” that the country “lost decades ago.”

As things stand, Kast will run in November 2025 for his third presidential election after 2017, in which he ran as an independent and received just under eight percent of the votes; and in 2021, when, thanks to the Republican Party, it went to the second round and garnered 44 percent of the votes.

In an interview given to ‘La Tercera’ last October, Kast assured that this will be the last time he runs for president of the country. “The third time is the charm (…) I would not be a candidate for a fourth time,” the Republican leader said then.
