The SDF reports more than 80 dead in the latest fighting against pro-Turkish armed groups in Manbij (Syria)

MADRID 4 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Kurdish-Arab militias of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have estimated that the fighting in the last 48 hours against Syrian armed groups backed by Turkey in the vicinity of the city of Manbij has already left more than 80 dead in the major active conflict. after the fall last month of the government of former president Bashar al Assad.

The Kurdish armed groups have since been immersed in bloody combats against militias backed by Turkey, which denounces the presence among the ranks of the FDS of operatives from the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), designated by Ankara as a terrorist organization. The mediation efforts being carried out by the US, an ally of the SDF in the fight against the Islamic State, are being unsuccessful.

“Violent clashes between our forces and the Turkish occupation mercenaries continue in the south and east of the city of Manbij,” SDF spokesman Farhad Shami said on his X social network account.

“Dozens of mercenaries have been eliminated and many of their military vehicles have been destroyed. The mercenaries failed to advance despite the support of the Turkish occupation with unmanned aerial vehicles and heavy artillery,” he added.

In an additional statement published on its website, the FDS speaks of 72 “mercenaries” killed during the fighting since Thursday, which has also left another eleven dead among the ranks of the Kurdish-Arab militias.
