The Sudanese Army announced this Saturday important progress in an operation aimed at recapturing the city of Uad Madani, the capital of Gezira state and the second largest town in the country, from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

“The Sudanese Armed Forces and other regular forces are advancing on the Madani axis, capital of Gezira state, and have inflicted huge losses on the rebel militia,” according to a statement posted by the military on its Facebook page.
In fact, sources close to the situation have informed the Arab newspaper ‘Asharq Al-Awsat’ that the Army and its allied militias have managed to enter the city “after the Rapid Support Forces withdrew from the area”, although the The military has not yet confirmed this point.
