The military rejects reports of the desertion of its forces in Aleppo and other parts of the country
MADRID, 30 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Syrian Army announced this Saturday the beginning of preparations to reinforce the defenses in the north of the province of Hama, the place that the coalition of jihadists and groups opposed to the Syrian Government have marked as a new objective of their lightning advance through the northwest of the country, which began in the middle of this week and has led them to take control of a good part of Aleppo, the second most important city in the country.
In a statement published on its Facebook account, the Syrian Army has denied that the opposition forces have already reached the rural cities of northern Hama, where the Syrian armed forces “have organized a reinforced defense line, in full readiness, preparation and great moral spirit to counter any possible attack.
Similarly, the Army has also denied “false information” about “the lack of performance of its functions in various regions”, after media related to the opposition assured that the military is carrying out mass desertions. “We call on fellow citizens not to believe rumors and lies about the situation on the ground or touch the military leadership and to follow the news through national channels and official pages,” added the statement from the Ministry of Defense.
Shortly before this statement, the so-called Military Operations Command, which is made up of the jihadists of Hayat Tahrir al Sham and armed opposition groups, stated on its Telegram account that its forces are advancing in the direction of Hama and the province of Idlib, the which until now was the last great opposition bastion.
The main objective is to open a corridor between Aleppo and Idlib to allow an escape route for the numerous fighters who are in the latter area and thus reinforce their offensive against the Syrian government.
“Significant advances of our forces in several axes in the countryside of Hama and Aleppo, in the midst of a state of great collapse of the enemy ranks, and their rapid withdrawal from dozens of important places, coinciding with the desertion of dozens of elements,” the rebel command announced in a statement.
