MADRID 9 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, has been “deeply concerned” by the latest reports of “arbitrary detention and intimidation” in Venezuela in the days leading up to January 10, the start date of the new presidential term. .
“Now is the time to work to reduce tensions and reduce the risk of more violence. Dialogue is essential,” Turk warned, in a message published this Thursday on social networks and in which he condemned, among other arrests, those of activist Carlos Correa and those of several opposition politicians and family members.
One of the arrests confirmed in recent days affects Rafael Tudares, son-in-law of the main opposition candidate in the last presidential elections, Edmundo González, who plans to return to Venezuela to take office after a tour that has taken him to several countries in the region.
González maintains that it was he who won the July presidential elections, after Chavismo declared the current Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, the winner, without presenting the minutes that would prove this supposed victory.
