The Secret Service declares the protocol for the first time as a maximum security event
MADRID, 5 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The US Congress is preparing to certify this Monday Donald Trump’s victory in the November presidential elections, four years after one of the most serious incidents in the recent history of American democracy: the assault on the Capitol carried out by supporters of the magnate to protest against his defeat in the penultimate elections.
The North American Government is not going to allow even a hint of these incidents to be repeated. Proof of this is that the US Department of Homeland Security has declared the recount as a Special National Security Event in an unprecedented decision for this electoral protocol, until 2021 a mere procedure, if not a democratic celebration.
The assault left four dead, some 140 police officers injured, and images typical of a civil war insurrection in the heart of Washington. Trump was singled out by a House of Congress investigation that identified him as participating in a “multi-party conspiracy” to overturn the election results and for his negligence in preventing his acolytes from storming the Capitol, and he came to be formally charged by a federal court in a case ultimately dropped after winning the election and regaining his presidential immunity.
More than 1,400 people were charged with federal crimes related to the siege, and more than 900 of them have been convicted so far.
Trump will be certified in the middle of a transition period where he has known political victories such as the reelection of the president of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson — a procedure that he personally supported in the face of criticism from several Republican congressmen for Johnson’s performance. in previous negotiations with the Democrats — and judicial setbacks such as the one that awaits the court on January 10 to hear the sentence on the case of alleged bribery of former adult film actress Stephanie Clifford, known as ‘Stormy Daniels’.
MAXIMUM SECURITY
The US Secret Service has advanced that Monday’s count will occur under a security deployment “of the greatest national importance”, as confirmed on November 9, just three days after Trump’s victory by the special agent in charge of the Division. of Secret Service Dignitary Protection, Eric Ranaghan, in a statement.
A recount will take place inside the Capitol, supervised by the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, in her capacity as deputy president of the US Senate.
Harris will simultaneously certify Trump’s victory in the elections and her resounding defeat as a Democratic Party candidate in the elections against the magnate by announcing the 312 electoral votes received by Trump from the congressmen of each state and, finally, she will also declare JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, as his successor as vice president of the United States.
Once both are certified, all that remains is to wait for their final investiture, in a ceremony that will take place on January 20.
