The US imposes sanctions on entities from Iran and Russia for trying to interfere in its elections

MADRID 31 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The United States Department of the Treasury announced this Tuesday sanctions against entities from Iran and Russia for interfering in its presidential elections, held last November, and which resulted in the victory of Donald Trump over Kamala Harris.

Specifically, Washington has sanctioned a subordinate organization of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, as well as a Moscow-based organization affiliated with the Russian Intelligence Service, for trying to “stoke sociopolitical tensions” and influence the American electorate during the 2024 elections.

“The governments of Iran and Russia have targeted our electoral processes and institutions and have sought to divide the American people through targeted disinformation campaigns,” Acting Undersecretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Bradley T. said in a statement. Smith. “The United States will remain alert to adversaries who want to undermine our democracy,” he added.

These actions by the United States are in addition to sanctions previously imposed on Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and Russian Intelligence and its numerous subordinate and delegate organizations, among other reasons for contributing to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and malicious cyber activities.
