The Venezuelan Armed Forces have sworn loyalty to the president and commander in chief, Nicolás Maduro, after his inauguration at the headquarters of the National Assembly in the capital, Caracas, after the elections on July 28 in which the opposition He denounced fraud and claimed victory.
“We attend this act of recognition, reaffirmation of loyalty and oath that exalts the fundamental bases on which the military organization rests, such as discipline, obedience and subordination,” said the Minister of Defense, Vladimir Padrino, in a statement. .
Likewise, he has stated that the Venezuelan Armed Forces ratify “the commitment of fidelity to the ideals of the liberator Simón Bolívar”, while they reiterate their “popular anti-colonialist, anti-oligarchic and anti-imperialist character.”
“We will defend the nation in perfect popular-military-police fusion against any threat,” Padrino stressed, adding that they will obey “the popular mandate expressed on July 28, 2024 in free, universal, direct, and secret elections.”
In the ceremony, held in the Patio of Honor of the Army Academies, the troops presented weapons after listening to the Venezuelan anthem. In addition to Padrino, the commander of the Strategic Operational Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, Domingo Antonio Hernández, was also present.
