The doctrine, criticized by the opposition as an initiative at the service of NATO, declares Moscow an “existential” danger
MADRID, 27 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Parliament of Moldova has approved the new national defense strategy for the next decade; a plan conceived directly against Russia, which it declares “the main threat” to the country, and which contemplates an increase in military spending as well as the development of relations with the European Union in the face of criticism from an opposition that describes the strategy as a covert extension of NATO policy.
The plan, announced by Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatîi, considers Moscow an “existential” danger due to its influence in the Moldovan separatist region of Transnistria. To alleviate this situation, the strategy not only includes a new expanded expenditure item, but also the development of Moldova’s participation in EU civil and peacekeeping missions, with a view to its full integration into them to 2034.
Moldova also contemplates the “harmonization of national legislation with that of the European Union” on defense issues to “reflect a clear vision and a firm commitment to the modernization of the sector and integration into European security mechanisms”, explained the minister in his speech before the Moldovan Parliament.
The opposition of the socio-communist bloc has denounced that the new defensive strategy has been prepared under the guidelines of the United States and Romania and has accused the Government of using the EU as a cover to cover up the fact, in its opinion, that this new strategy is In reality, a plan drawn up by NATO.
“There is no European security architecture. There is a NATO defense architecture, period,” said socialist deputy Bogdan Tirdea in his reply speech, collected by the Moldovan news portal NewsMaker, before the approval granted by the Parliament this past Thursday — in its last session before the winter recess.
