Life is pretty much challenging for every one of us. In the past decade, thousands of people were left homeless, as poverty is more and more present. The numbers reflect the problem: more than 500 000 million people in the US were officially counted as homeless. The residents of the state of California were the most affected. Up to 151,278 people, last year were left on the street.

Fortunately, there are still good people out there who are aiming to bring light in the darkest times of the suffering ones. Unsheltered life is filled with fear, hunger, and lots of trouble. Many of the people living on the streets of California share their beds and food with animals. Therefore, they need special care too. Working as a street veterinarian, Stewart Kwane stared his mission to take care of the pets of the homeless in 2011.

In 2007, the Great Recession hit the globe and affected millions of people. It was at that time Stewart decided to help the ones in need. The 49-year-old veterinarian said: “There was something about it that I loved.” He shows his generosity by buying basic food and medicine for them.

To raise donations for covering all the surgeries these four-legged patients need, he runs a GoFundMe page. He explains: “The cost of minor treatments like ear infections, flea treatment, or vaccines can be around $100, whereas more serious cases like a tumor removal or dental with extractions can be $1,500.” It doesn’t seem that saving an outdoor animal is cheap.

Dinker is a street dog that lives with his homeless owner Walter and the two of them have a connection like no other. Kwane said about this case: “Unfortunately, Dinker has a very rare condition that requires surgery from a specialist.” The veterinarian is giving all his effort to make this surgery happen, but he needs our help to make it happen.

About his job, Kwane said:
“I’ve experienced the most genuine stories of love, compassion, struggle, and hope.”

But he won’t give up. On his GoFundMe page, he expressed his gratitude by saying: “I am blown away by your generosity!” He now set a higher goal to bring more vets on the streets to help him and his so-called patients.

As a specialist in his job, he treats skin and ear infections, allergies, bad teeth, flea infestations, and arthritis.
