Spanish chef José Andrés will receive this Saturday the highest civilian distinction in the United States, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, from the outgoing president of the United States, Joe Biden.
The medal is awarded to individuals “who have made exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values or security of the United States, world peace or other important social, public or private efforts,” as recalled by the White House in an announcement advanced by the American media.
José Andrés will be joined by 18 other personalities from politics and culture, such as the soccer player Lionel Messi, the actors Michael J. Fox and Denzel Washington, the basketball player Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson, the singer Bono, the former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton or the financier George Soros.
